Description: Joyce Chandler, newly separated from her husband, had found a job (as a copy reader at Yardstick) and, after an arduous hunt, an apartment she liked and could afford, in a section of Greenwich Village near the Hudson River.
Problems started the first night. She was suddenly awakened and sat up in the unfamiliar darkness, listening. Someone was shouting. It sounded terribly urgent--a police raid? God, the things the imagination came up with in the middle of the night.
This is a possible story, a plausible story, and nothing that a nervous woman living alone should read -- certainly not if she's a copyreader!!!
Owner Comments: older edition -- library discard -- book and dust jacket in decent shape
